The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy was first published in 1963. Regardless of it being so old, the concepts of the book are still strong and they make sense. There were times while reading the book when I found it hard to believe, while other times there were things which made complete sense. Not only that, they were pretty thought-provoking. I had to pause and think about it from a different perspective as well. I will also try out the things told by the author and wait for those miracles to happen to me as well. The normal text is the summary while italics are my views on that specific thing or something I want to add to the summary.
Summary
The author emphasizes that you can bring into your life more power, wealth, health, happiness, and joy by learning to contact and release the hidden power of your subconscious mind. He states that we already have this power with us. But most people don’t know how to use it. Once you know how to use it, you can use it to make your life a lot better.
When your mind thinks correctly, when you understand the truth, and when the thoughts deposited in your subconscious mind are constructive, harmonious, and peaceful, the magic working power of your subconscious will respond and bring about harmonious conditions, agreeable surroundings, and the best of everything. When you begin to control your thought processes, you can apply the powers of your subconscious to any problem or difficulty.
This is true because when you are truly happy, you look at everything positively and react positively. This makes all of your thoughts free from anger or resentment. The emotions you feel internally, the emotions your subconscious mind feels, will be converted into your actions whether you notice it or not. For eg. If you are always angry, you will react angrily to everything.
To transform your life, you need to learn how to maintain conversation between your conscious and subconscious mind. To change the external conditions you must change the cause. To remove discord, confusion, lack, and limitation, you must remove the cause, and the cause is the way you are using your conscious mind. In other words, the way you are thinking and picturing in your mind. Your subconscious mind will believe what you will do, it won't ask you any questions or any doubt. It will just simply absorb it, only as long as you will tell it with complete belief. If you keep telling evil things, evil will follow. If you will tell good things, good will follow. If you keep saying bad and negative things, everything will turn out to be bad and negative. This is majorly because your subconscious mind controls how you will react.
It is fascinating and intensely interesting to observe how you can speak authoritatively and with conviction to the irrational movement of your deeper self, bringing silence, harmony, and peace to your mind. The subconscious is subject to the conscious mind, and that is why it is called subconscious or subjective. The captain is the master of his ship, and his decrees are carried out. Likewise, your conscious mind is the captain and the master of your ship, which represents your body, environment, and all your affairs. Your subconscious mind takes the orders you give it based on what your conscious mind believes and accepts as true.
The reason the subconscious mind is so powerful is that it is always working. It is controlling things which are beyond your control, the control of your subconscious mind. It is controlling the growth of your hair and nails, digestion, pumping of blood and every other thing happening in your body that you can’t control with your will.
Never finish a negative statement; reverse it immediately, and wonders will happen in your life.
Ideas could be conveyed to the subconscious mind by repetition, faith, and expectancy.
You have a mind, and you should learn how to use it. There are two levels of your mind-the conscious or rational level, and the subconscious or irrational level. You think with your conscious mind, and whatever you habitually think sinks down into your subconscious mind, which creates according to the nature of your thoughts. Your subconscious mind is the seat of your emotions and is the creative mind. You will get a reaction or response from your subconscious mind according to the nature of the thought or idea you hold in your conscious mind.
